Climathon NZ

The Antarctic Office has joined forces with youth-led climate action group Generation Zero to organise Christchurch’s Climathon, a ‘hackathon’ style event that will simultaneously take place in over 200 cities around the world.

Climathon attracts innovators, entrepreneurs, students and professionals to create innovative solutions to the climate challenges faced by our cities. Participants will tackle a 24-hour set challenge before pitching their ideas to local stakeholders. These ideas have the potential to develop into tangible sustainable solutions and businesses that address city climate challenges across the globe.

The inaugural Christchurch event will challenge participants to come up with practical ideas to incorporate into the rebuild – taking this as the perfect opportunity to create a sustainable city that takes the lead on combating climate change.

Climathon NZ is free for participants and takes place from 6pm Friday 27 October to 6pm Saturday 28 October 2017. Registrations via the Climathon NZ website.

Christchurch Climathon is supported by The Deep South National Science Challenge, The Sustainable Business Network, Generation Zero, Ara Institute of Canterbury and The Antarctic Office.
